In an ode to the original Autumn Harvest, I spent an awfully long time in trying to come up with a very modern take on Hutchy's classic attractor, especially for us.

After a lengthy gestation period, involving months and months of blending various flavours and tweaking the levels on each, it was agreed that the finished article was close enough to remind all and sundry of yesteryear, whist remaining suitably different - and unique as a standalone product in its own right.

We released a limited run of hookbaits in an amber-glass jar set during the summer of 2022, and I'm delighted to say they proved an instant success to those lucky enough to lay their hands on a tub.

So, following a further, recent, complementary twist to the recipe, we have decided to release them en masse using our bespoke, ultra-buoyant, washed-out pink, and yellow, 12mm pop-ups.

If you're not familiar with the scent of old, think; the warm smell of dark berries such as blueberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, alongside damson and black cherry, with a sweet, creamy backnote.

These have a lovely, strong, yet subtle scent, that will almost certainly be unlike anything you have smelt before!

Whilst we have always taken great pride in doing our own thing and going against the grain to ensure originality, just occasionally you realise that there is a certain product you really should have in the locker, and this is one of them.

We already roll a couple of our fruit recipes on an orange base, but having had great success in our own fishing using the colour, we felt that adding another string to our bow, in that respect, certainly couldn't do any harm - and so, the Angel Dust/PCP was born!

In a wonderful twist of fate at around the same time as our initial tinkering, John Baker released a simply delightful Peach flavour, so we swiftly replaced our original choice, with his offering, and that became the base for our attractor package. As per everyone else, we combined the peach with a proper Black Pepper Essential Oil to give them that extra punch, and then the signature twist on a theme was provided by an original Rod Hutchinson Clove, c/o good ol' Heisenberg up at HQ. Now available for the second year running, having taken fish from all over Europe, dare we say it; the inclusion of this rather leftfield addition has proved a masterstroke!

Ideal for year-round use, but particularly effective throughout the cooler months, the dull, muted shade of these little wonders means they're not quite as in-your-face as the average fluoro - though the clove certainly helps them stand out from the crowd when it matters.

The path into the, occasionally murky, world of old school flavours is one bestrewn by many perils. 

As with any other pastime that has it's turn in the fashionable spotlight, in recent years the upturn in popularity of ancient (and occasionally well past their best) ingredients and flavours, has unfortunately seen an increase in some fairly unscrupulous and unsavoury dealings...

With this in mind, and with our continued efforts to keep pushing the envelope in terms of fresh ideas/ingredients within our own bait-making, we realised that to save falling foul of any interlopers trading amongst these rapidly dwindling stocks ourselves, we would need to looked elsewhere to source new alternatives to which we could happily, and without hesitation, put our names.

Over the winter of 2022 and into the start of the current year, we had more than the occasional engagement with a couple of gentleman who need little to no introduction when it comes to the art of rolling bait, one of whom in particular was capable of sourcing some of the very finest ingredients in large volume, having recently worked very closely with a 'flavour house' of some repute on alternative projects - and an introduction was made!

Whilst we have little desire to shoot ourselves in the foot at this point in time, it has been decided that to allow us to obtain said liquids for our own purposes, we'd need a helping hand, as the upfront costs to purchase them in the volumes required to meet minimum order quantities is fairly prohibitive to a small business such as ours... and that's where you guys come in!

Over the remainder of the year (and moving onwards) it is our plan to bring back some of the more popular, yet potentially rarer, flavours from a bygone era, starting with this, the iconic Esterblend 12, in an effort to offset some of the costs involved, while also allowing you to have a play with one or two of your own combinations that may differ from our own. At the end of the day we deemed it a small price to pay, where everyone benefits in the end!

Not only is this Esterblend a particularly powerful attractor in it's own right, but it also lends itself very well to working in combination with a whole host of others, whether they be fishy, savoury, fruity, or sweet - and so we couldn't think of a better way to kick-start our range.

Whilst all this is still in it's infancy right now, we are hoping to follow on from the E12 fairly swiftly, with a wonderful Squid and Octopus, a divinely smooth Scopex, a proper Shellfish SA, a humdinger of a (Monster) Crab and one or two others that should set the record straight on what can be achieved when you're not just after lining your own pocket whilst pretending you know what you're up to and you're doing the world some sort of favour.

Discovering something akin to the original is becoming rarer and rarer in this day and age, particularly when certain key ingredients have become outlawed since the turn of the century and man has just used the wonders of science to try and replicate those things, often leading to harsh, chemically scents that are nothing like those from halcyon times.
